The latest volume of Theologica Wratislaviensia, titled On the Road to Freedom. Dietrich Bonhoeffer and Edith Stein, brings together scholars and practitioners from across the world to explore the lives, theology, and witness of these two influential figures, with a particular focus on the theme of freedom. Their sacrificial faith and moral courage led both to resist the destructive power of Nazism and ultimately to give their lives in concentration camps.

The contributors engage questions of discipleship, public theology, and resistance in the face of suffering and injustice. Meeting in Wrocław, Poland — the birthplace of both Bonhoeffer and Stein — they reflected on these themes in the shadow of Russia’s ongoing invasion of Ukraine. Together they consider how the legacy of these two witnesses can continue to speak prophetically into contemporary contexts marked by tyranny and oppression.

Combining scholarly depth with practical insight for Christian leaders and students, this timely volume offers compelling models of cross-bearing faith amid today’s social and political crises.
